Appointment System


As the exceptionally high demand from the winter season has dropped, we are pleased to say we will now be allocating more of our capacity to pre-bookable routine appointments for better continuity of care and to reduce the waiting time for these appointments.

Urgent ‘on-the-day’ Appointments

Patients with urgent medical conditions on the day should continue to call the surgery as soon as possible after 8.00 am.  PLEASE DO NOT QUEUE OUTSIDE as these appointments are made by telephone only. 

Patients requesting an urgent appointment will have their details taken by the Reception Team and offered an appointment with the most appropriate clinician available on the day.  

The aim of these changes to the appointment system is to ensure patient access for acute conditions is maintained and continuity of care for routine appointments is met. 

No face to face appointments will be offered after 18:00 for same day urgent requests, only advice via telephone will be offered from the On Call GP.

Please assist reception by giving a brief description of your symptoms and ensure you give us your correct telephone details. You must be able to take the call!

The system enables patients to see an appropriate clinician routinely (pre-bookable) or urgently (on-the-day) if same-day care is needed. All nurse appointments can be made in advance so please book as soon as possible. Receptionists will ask you if you require a routine or an urgent appointment.

Routine Pre-bookable Appointments

We have appointments available for pre-booking, called routine appointments. If your request to see a clinician (doctor, advanced nurse practitioner or nurse) is non-urgent, you may wish to pre-book an appointment for up to 4 weeks ahead. These are in addition to on-line appointments, which are also available for pre-booking up to 4 weeks ahead – see ‘online appointments’ below.

Online appointments

The practice has a system for booking appointments online called EMIS Access. We do not have all our appointments online so not to disadvantage patients who do not have internet access but do attempt to have a selection available. We are able to offer GP appointments but not nurses. Before you can start booking online you need to be registered on the system, you will be able to book appointments for yourself once you are registered. The system is available for under 16’s and parents can register their children at reception and they will be issued with their own password. Please collect a leaflet from reception which will give you all the information you need.

On-line appointments are released daily so availability to book one week or two weeks in advance should make regular review easier for patients. The surgery continually adjusts how many appointments are offered on-line to ensure a variety of options are available.


If you are unable to attend an appointment you have booked on-line, you can cancel it on line or if its on the day of the appointment please notify the surgery by telephone or text 'cancel' if you have been sent a reminder, to cancel so that they may offer it to another patient.

Late Evening Clinics

Late evening appointments are available for both routine (pre-bookable up to 4 weeks in advance) and urgent (on-the-day) appointments, usually for patients who work.
