Patient Participation Group Meeting

Please allow two working days, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for prescriptions to be processed.  Any problems, please telephone the surgery.  Please note the prescription email account should not be used for urgent care requests.  Please use either the telephone system or alternatively the e-consult facility on the home screen for urgent care requests.

There are a number of different ways you can request a prescription:

• With effect from 28^th March 2023, you can request a repeat prescription, via our Klinik system.  Simply  click on the “start here” banner on home page on website.

• All patients who have access to Patient Access can now request their repeat medication via Patient Access .  Please advise our patient co-ordinators if you are having problems requesting your repeat medication via Patient Access.  Only repeat medication can be requested via patient access.
• Alternatively you can use the online form via the link on this page.  First time users are required to complete a simple one-off registration.
• Arrangements can be made with your local pharmacy to request prescriptions on your behalf. You then collect them from the pharmacy ready made up. Local chemists Bradley Stoke Pharmacy (based at Bradley Stoke Surgery), Billings Pharmacy, Boots - Willow Brook Centre, Boots – The Mall, Jhoots at Brook Way and Patchway, Lloyds – Braydon Avenue, Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s and Tesco – Willow Brook Centre, will collect your prescription by arrangement.
• Email us at bradleystoke.prescriptions@nhs.net. Please remember to give your full name, date of birth and address and clearly state the medications you require along with the strength and what form they take i.e tablet, injection.
• In writing enclosing a stamped addressed envelope and we will return to you.
• By completing a prescription request form or the right hand side of your prescription and putting it in the post box in the entrance to the surgery.

Requests are not accepted over the telephone – this is for your safety so please respect this policy.

 Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions. There are certain types of medicine which cannot be given without consultation with either a nurse or a doctor.

Please note - Patients need to be signed up with a Pharmacy before asking to collect prescriptions from that Pharmacy

ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTION SERVICE – RELEASE 2 (EPS2)

What is EPS?        

EPS is a new system that has been devised to make it easier for Patients to pick up their repeat prescription. It is called Electronic Prescription Service or EPS for short. EPS is a NHS service that sends your prescriptions from the Surgery to a Pharmacy without the need for a paper copy. Patients need to nominate a Pharmacy of their choice; this Pharmacy will receive your prescription direct from your GP Surgery via the EPS.

What Does it Mean for Patients?

With EPS patients will not need to visit their GP Surgery to collect their prescription anymore. Patients will have more choice about where to get their medicines from because you can choose a Pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop. EPS is reliable, secure and confidential as the electronic prescription can only be seen by the same people in the GP Surgery and Pharmacies who see your paper prescription now.

What Do I Need to Do?

You can fill in an EPS nomination form, available from your GP Surgery; this nominates which Pharmacy your electronic prescription is delivered to direct from your GP, without you needing to collect and take your paper prescription to a Pharmacy. However, you do not need to make a nomination if you still wish to collect your prescription from the surgery.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

• Prescription (per item): £9.65
• 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
• 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

There are 4 ways you can obtain a prescription prepayment certificate:

• on line - complete and submit a PPC (FP95) application form on the NHS Business Service Authority website and pay by debit or credit card
• by phone - 0300 330 1341, and pay by debit or credit card
• by post - pick up an FP95 application form from any GP surgery or pharmacy or download and print the form (PDF< 52KB), then send the completed form with your cheque, postal order, credit card or debit card details to the address shown on the form.
• at a registered pharmacy - you can buy a PPC at a registered pharmacy if the pharmacy is registered and you don't need to complete payment details on the form, as you can pay the pharmacy directly.

Important information regarding Paracetamol:

During the colder months viruses like colds and flu can cause many unpleasant symptoms.

Paracetamol is a safe and effective painkiller when used correctly and is widely available in many over the counter cold and flu remedies to treat aches, pains and fevers. 

Always ensure you read the packaging and leaflet to avoid accidental overdose of Paracetamol.

Paracetamol overdose can damage your liver and can even be fatal.
